Searching for a Distance Education Psychology Program or Course?

A psychology degree is ideal for anyone who is looking for a career focused on studying human behavior and the reason behind human actions and emotions. There are a wide range of degree levels that you can obtain when you pursue a distance education psychology degree.

Distance Education Psychology Careers

Careers in psychology range from traditional to new and innovative. Most psychologists require a PhD in order to practice. There are sub-fields within psychology that can be refined to your interests and the needs of the community around you. These categories include health psychology, counseling psychology and child psychology. University laboratories and classrooms are another setting that PhD graduates often find themselves working. Many large companies will hire psychologists to act as private consultants for their employers, and clinical setting like hospitals and counseling centers are also popular settings for a PhD graduate. There are many career opportunities open for you if you pursue a distance education psychology degree.

Distance Education Psychology Degrees

The different psychology degrees depend mostly on two things:

How long do you want to stay in school?

What career are you aiming for?

Distance education psychology degrees are the same as traditional psychology degrees in terms of the steps to progress from one degree to the next. Many careers only require a Bachelor degree, while some of the higher paying and more prestigious careers will require a PhD.The Bachelor of Psychology comes in two formats: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology or Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

The main difference between these two degrees is the overall number of science credits required for graduation. If you excel in science, take the Bachelor of Science; if you are not that strong in science, take the Bachelor of Arts. Both of these degrees are respected in the psychology community, and the can lead to slightly different careers, but careers that are equal in status. These degrees take anywhere between 3 to 5 years to complete.

After a student has obtained the Bachelor degree in distance education psychology, they can move on the the Master degree. This requires between one to two years of additional work after a Bachelor degree. A Master degree means that you have picked an area of specialty in psychology, and you want to further educate yourself in the theories and practice around it. You can choose to take a terminal Master degree, which means that it is the final step in your degree process, or a Master degree in conjunction with a PhD. These combined degrees can take anywhere between 4 to 8 years to complete.

A distance education psychology PhD or PsyD is the highest form of education in psychology available in North America. A PhD can take 4 or more years to complete, and it is research-intensive. A student choosing this path will probably want a career doing research, such as working in a university lab. The PsyD degree is slightly different, and allows students to become doctors of psychology. They are able to open up their own offices and do clinical psychology in public or private practice.

A psychology degree will open up many doors and opportunities in terms of a respected career after graduation. Hospitals, universities and private practices are always looking for qualified psychologists to fill their ranks. If you do choose to pursue a distance education psychology degree you can land a job in as little as three years in a well-respected field. For those who are intrigued by the human condition, or those who simply want to help others, a psychology degree is the best credential to gain access to knowledge about the inner workings of the human mind.
