Counseling aims to provide help for individuals who are dealing with personal, social, academic and other related problems. In today’s world, things have become complicated more than ever before. More and more people are turning to counselors for help. To become a counselor, an individual must take a Counselor degree. With the increasing number of people pursuing Counselor Degrees, there are now a lot of universities/schools offering Counselor Degrees. And with the help of the internet, Counselor Degrees are also offered online.
You need a Master’s degree in counseling, and two (2) years of supervised clinical internship experience. You also need to be licensed and certified to practice. Aspiring counselors should check with the state and local governments to know which requirements are needed in their area. It is noted that even though a Master’s degree is needed for counseling practice, a Bachelor’s degree often qualifies an individual to become a counseling aide, rehabilitation aide or even a social worker. You can choose to be nationally certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. (NBCC), which grants national certification.
